About

HellKat is the ceramic practice of Goldsmiths Fine Art graduate Sophie Carter, a British artist, living and working in South East London.  Creating sculptural vessels that often defy traditional function, HellKat crafts visual oddities designed to spark wonder
and invite close contemplation.

Whilst some vessels may be capable of performing their traditional task of holding, their primary purpose is not utility, but presence.  They are made to exist as self-contained aesthetic forms.  Others go further, deliberately disregarding the conventions of the vase, instead asserting themselves as standalone curiosities, explicit celebrations of form, surface, and visual intrigue.

HellKat is a space for continual refinement and experimental play, where form and
function are tested, resisted, and reimagined.  The work distorts expectation, insisting we reconsider the ways we connect with objects.
